OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 17.1.4 - padoka PPA
This! I guess you are using some kind of mesa packages from that PPA which do not contain the required Mir patches. You need to switch these packages back to the ones that come with 16.04.

I guess this the ppa you are using. Right?

https://launchpad.net/~paulo-miguel-dia ... ter=xenial

Maybe you need to ask the maintainer to include the Mir patches.

Exactly. I was thinking about the same. Weird because a lot of people are using this PPA for being "one of the most updated out there", the thing is... like almost everything with GNU/Linux is that there is like 3 others third party PPA for Mesa out there. So I might have to rollback or try to recolect more info before and start asking as you said.

For the moment I think I might just rollback for the stable PPA from 16.04 and see. most likely that will work!

if you are feeling adventurous maybe you could try building it yourself. As I can see the ppa offers mesa 17.1.4 which I have already used for Yunit in debian unstable.
I guess you can pick the related source packages below and build these in ubuntu.

http://archive.yunit.io/debian/pool/mai ... rig.tar.gz
http://archive.yunit.io/debian/pool/mai ... le.diff.gz

the second one contains all the required files and patches to build it with Mir support enabled.

Ok thank you sir! At the moment I just downgraded the Mesa drivers to default version of 16.04.2 (12.06) and now everything is working good. Finally! ;)

The system seems very responsive, much more than the default of unity8 from 17.04. I experienced 2 crashes, I think because of Firefox Nightly. Other tha that everything is smooth.
I will try to experiment more and keep trying to support with testing.

Thank you sir for your time and patience.
Now is time to get some rest.
Tomorrow will be a new day.
Keep up the good work!

Nice! I see that you already discovered the issue with the "floating" window in Gimp. There are many similar issues we need to fix :)

Have a good night!

Hi John,

I contacted the PPA maintainer of the Mesa Package I have been using and he replied me a similar answer that the one you gave me.
HI,

Padoka is used by more then 1 million ppl worldwide, and used for
testing by some companies when they develop their ports for linux,
including feral.

Mir isnt and never was part of mesa master, one of the premises of
padoka is to deliver the pure mesa master experience to the users.

What you can is to fork my ppa and create your own with the mir patches.

if you need help, feel free to ping me

So I may just keep with the stable official one that is working instead of building as you suggested to me. Right now I don't have the time nor the will to do it haha. :D . Anyways It would be good to have the drivers also updated sometime soon.

Hi,

So I am trying to use Yunit more often, for now everything seems to be going well for this being in pre-alpha stage. I been following Unity8 bug tracking in launchapd since when Canonical started this project until they dropped the support but there are three things that are keeping me away from working with Yunit at this period.

1- I am using Yunit as I described before in a laptop, and the only way to scroll pages with the touchpad are with two-fingers, the edge scrolling is not working for me. I wanted to know if there is any workaround to get this working at least nor now, just a momentary fix because the Two-fingers thingy is very inaccurate in my laptop.

2-Right-click and menu drops seems buggy so I can't even configure anything that needs to access to pop-up menus or even copy & paste for example with a mouse/trackpad. Just with shortcuts.

3-When I connect the laptop to any external monitor by HDMI the image translates to the external device but I can't use the touchpad because the host (laptop) "transforms" itself to behave as a touch-mobile device.

As I said, I am well aware that since now thanks for this new milestone of porting Yunit to Ubuntu LTS, the project as just begun and there is still a long way upfront. I know the team will start to work to address these and more important issues from now on. I know the problems I am facing are known bugs since Canonical was working with Unity8 until they stopped supporting it.

But It will be good at least to get some advices just to know if there is any chance to get a temporary fix or a workaround just for now so I can keep testing the system in a more daily basis.

Thank you for everyhing

Hmmmmm.... I wasn't aware of the 1st issue you mentioned. In any case could you please open 3 issues (one for each) in github?

https://github.com/yunit-io/yunit/issues

Thanks!

Done!

I will keep submitting any strange behavior. Reasonable ones of course.

Thanks
